The New Testament

LITERAL TRANSLATION FROM ANCIENT GREEK TO ITALIAN
BY REV. PIERO OTTAVIANO

The translations below were made using the Greek source of Nestle-Aland (Stuttgart 1979, 26th edition). They’re almost completely made by Rev. Piero Ottaviano although, since he welcomed criticisms and confrontation, he used to discuss his interpretation with people who knew Greek and, sometimes, adopted suggestions sprung out by these discussions. For these same reasons, and with the objective of constantly improving these translations (which are solely aimed to offer further ground for study), we will welcome any grounded and documented suggestion concerning the texts.

From Rev. Piero Ottaviano’s notes:
“Literal translation, as a drawback, is difficult to read. But its important advantage resides in its adherence to the original text. Sometimes, for instance, the source isn’t clear. On which ground can we assume we’re correctly making it clear in our translation? In order to understand it, it has to be explained. In this way [with a literal translation completed with notes and explications, editor’s note] the reader can distinguish between the Author’s thinking and the scholars’ interpretations.".
